Description:
The ABB TPM810 soft starter is a voltage regulator used during motor starting. It only changes the voltage, not the frequency. A motor soft starter uses a soft starter connected in series between the power supply and the controlled motor. It controls the conduction angle of the internal thyristors, causing the motor input voltage to gradually increase from zero according to a preset function until the start-up is complete, providing the motor with full voltage – this is soft starting. During soft starting, the motor's starting torque and speed gradually increase.

FEATURES:

  • Modular Design
The TPM810 module features a modular design, enabling easy integration into various industrial automation systems.

This design also allows users to flexibly configure and expand the module according to their specific needs.
  • Input/Output Functions
The TPM810 module boasts powerful input/output capabilities, supporting connections to various types of sensors and actuators.

Through this module, users can easily acquire, process, and output data to meet the needs of diverse industrial automation applications.
  • Communication Interface
The TPM810 module is typically equipped with communication interfaces, such as PROFIBUS DP, enabling data exchange and communication with other devices and systems.

This communication capability allows the TPM810 module to be easily integrated into existing industrial automation networks, achieving data sharing and collaborative operation.
  • High Performance and Reliability
The TPM810 module is manufactured using advanced technology and high-quality materials, ensuring excellent performance and reliability in industrial automation environments.

The module can operate stably for extended periods, reducing failure rates and improving production efficiency and equipment utilization.

QA:

Q1. What do the LED indicators (such as OK, ALARM, TRIP) on the TPM810 front panel represent?

OK (Green): The module self-test is normal, power supply is good, and it is operating normally. If this light is off or flashing, it indicates a hardware or internal fault in the module.

ALARM (Yellow/Orange): Indicates that the measured value of at least one monitoring channel has exceeded the alarm setpoint, but has not yet reached a dangerous level. This alerts operators to the trend.

TRIP (Red): Indicates that the measured value of at least one monitoring channel has exceeded the trip setpoint. The module has generated a trip logic output (usually a relay contact actuation) and requests the unit to stop. This is the highest level of warning.

Channel-specific indicator lights (such as CH1, CH2): Indicate the status of the corresponding channel (normal, alarm, danger).

Q2. How are field signals connected to the TPM810?

The TPM810 is typically not directly connected to the original sensors. The signal flow is generally as follows: Sensors (eddy current probes, accelerometers, thermocouples, etc.) convert mechanical quantities into electrical signals.

Signal conditioners/preamplifiers (such as Bentley Nevada's 3300/3500 series, ABB's VT100, etc.) amplify, demodulate, and convert the sensor signal into a standard 4-20mA or +/-10V DC process signal.

This standard analog signal is connected to the corresponding analog input channel on the TPM810 module's backplane.

The TPM810 reads this signal and compares it to the internally configured setpoint.

Q3. How to reset the TPM810 after a trip?

Trip reset is a critical safety procedure that usually requires manual intervention and must be performed only after confirming that the cause of the unit malfunction has been eliminated. There are generally two methods:

Hardware Reset: Via the reset button on the front of the module (if present) or an externally connected reset switch/button. Pressing the button clears the trip latch state, and the TRIP red light goes out. However, this requires that the measured value has returned to below the normal range.

Software reset: A software reset is performed via control commands on the operator station (HMI) or engineer station.
