Description:

The Rockwell Allen‑Bradley 1440-SPD02-01RB (XM‑220) Dual Speed Module measures speed, rotor acceleration, and peak speed, and can detect zero speed, locked rotor, and reverse rotation. It can also serve as a component of an Electronic Overspeed Detection System (EODS).

The module accepts two tachometer inputs (eddy current probes, magnetic pickups, or TTL output devices) and provides two isolated 4‑20 mA outputs, programmable to represent speed or acceleration from either channel. It features one onboard DPDT relay (two Form C contacts) and can be expanded with an XM‑441 relay module to add four additional relays.

Key capabilities:

  • Measures forward and reverse speed (1…1,200,000 rpm or 0.0167…20,000 Hz)

  • High‑speed measurement accuracy: ±0.2 rpm at low speed, ±2 rpm up to 12,000 rpm

  • Acceleration in rpm/min

  • Peak speed capture (retains highest observed speed since power‑up or manual reset)

  • Dual‑channel mode: two independent speed measurements

  • Single redundant channel mode: automatic switchover to the second sensor if the primary fails

  • Reverse rotation detection (two sensors mounted out of phase)

  • Eight alarms (speed, acceleration, zero speed, locked rotor) with alert/danger pairs

  • Operators: greater than, less than, inside range, outside range

  • Relay logic: single or paired AND/OR, time delay (0…25.5 s), latching or non‑latching, failsafe or non‑failsafe

  • DeviceNet communication with configurable I/O Poll Response

  • Serial port (RS‑232) for local configuration via XM Serial Configuration Utility

Applications:

  • Speed monitoring for pumps, fans, compressors, turbines, and generators

  • Zero speed detection and locked rotor protection

  • Reverse rotation detection (e.g., pumps, conveyors)

  • Electronic overspeed detection systems (EODS) in combination with XM‑442 voted relay module

Quality Assurance:
100% brand new original. 1‑year warranty. In stock for fast delivery (1‑3 days).

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1: What is the main function of the XM-220 module (1440-SPD02-01RB)?
A1: The XM-220 is a dual‑channel speed module that measures speed, rotor acceleration, and peak speed. It also detects zero speed, locked rotor, and reverse rotation. It can be used as a standalone speed monitor or as part of an Electronic Overspeed Detection System (EODS).

Q2: What types of tachometer sensors can be connected?
A2: The module accepts eddy current proximity probes, magnetic pickups, and TTL output devices. It supports two independent tachometer inputs.

Q3: What output signals does the XM-220 provide?
A3: It provides two isolated 4‑20 mA analog outputs (programmable for speed or acceleration), one onboard DPDT relay (two Form C contacts), and one active buffer output per input channel. An optional XM‑441 expansion relay module can add four more relays.

Q4: Does the XM-220 support redundant sensor operation?
A4: Yes, in single redundant channel mode, the module automatically switches to the second tachometer sensor if the primary sensor fails. In dual‑channel mode, both sensors operate independently to provide two separate speed measurements.

Q5: Can the XM-220 detect reverse rotation?
A5: Yes. When two sensors are mounted out of phase (e.g., 90° apart), the module determines rotational direction by detecting which sensor sees the keyway first. This is useful for pumps, conveyors, and other machinery where reverse rotation must be prevented.

Q6: What are the speed measurement ranges and accuracy?
A7: The measurable range is 1…1,200,000 rpm (0.0167…20,000 Hz). Accuracy is:

  • 1…240 rpm: ±0.2 rpm

  • 24…12,000 rpm: ±2 rpm

  • 12,001…20,400 rpm: ±5 rpm

  • 360,001…1,200,000 rpm: ±160 rpm
